The Costa Blanca (White Coast) covers more than 200 kilometres (120 miles) of Mediterranean coastline. It is in the community of Valencia and the province of Alicante on the southeastern coast of Spain. The most northern municipality is Denia on the border of the Costa del Azahar and the most southern municipality is Pilar de la Horadada which borders the Costa Calida (Warm Coast).
The province of Alicante has around 140 municipalities but the most prominent of these in the coastal areas include Alicante, Altea, Benidorm, Benissa, Calpe, Denia, Elche, El Campello, Finestrat, Guardamar del Segura, Alfaz del Pi, Orihuela-Costa, Pilar de la Horadada, Santa Pola, Teulada–Moraira, Torrevieja, Villajoyosa and Jávea (Xàbia). The most popular areas for tourism are Benidorm, Alicante, Torrevieja, and Orihuela-Costa.
The main airport is Alicante-Elche (ALC). The area is also serviced by Valencia Airport (VLC) and Murcia-Corvera Airport (RMU). There are a number of low-cost airlines which fly into these airports from all over Europe.
The Costa Blanca has a Mediterranean climate, with mild, relatively rainy winters and hot, sunny summers. Average temperatures range from around 12 °C (53.5 °F) in January and February when the Costa Blanca weather is at its coolest to around 26 °C (79 °F) in July and August when the weather in the Costa Blanca is at its warmest. Even in mid-winter, there are many sunny days, with daytime temperatures reaching or exceeding 20 °C (68 °F). In winter, very cold days are rare, but on colder periods, the minimum temperature can drop to about freezing; in practice, it never snows. The coldest records are around -2/-3 °C (27/28 °F) and in summer, temperatures in the region can reach as high as 38/40 °C (100/104 °F).
