A bold new vision adds to transform of the city centre hub by year’s end

Torrevieja is stepping confidently into the future with the approval of a €9 million renovation project to breathe new life into one of its most iconic central spaces—La Plasa. The Local Government Board has officially greenlit the basic and execution plans for the full-scale transformation of the building, with work expected to begin later this year.

Backed by an initial budget allocation of €4.5 million for 2025, the city’s governing team will soon open the public tender process to select contractors for this ambitious redevelopment.

The project, overseen by Councillor for Commerce and Hospitality Rosario Martínez Chazarra, is not just about bricks and mortar—it’s about redefining the role of La Plasa in modern Torrevieja. Designed by the expert team at Cayetano Bernabé Ingeniero y Asociados SL, in collaboration with architects Jorge Juan Bernabé Brotons and Salvador Moreno Zambudio, the redevelopment comes with a vision: to make La Plasa an architectural and cultural focal point for residents and tourists alike.

Set in the heart of the city, La Plasa will undergo a complete redesign, both inside and out. Plans include enhanced accessibility, a modernised layout, and a refreshed façade to complement the evolving urban landscape. Surrounding streets will also benefit from improvements, enhancing the area’s appeal as a vibrant destination for shopping, leisure, and community events.

In a move to increase flexibility and community use, the second and third floors of the building will be delivered as open-plan, multi-purpose spaces—perfect for exhibitions, pop-ups, local markets, or cultural gatherings.

Once complete, La Plasa is expected to emerge not just as a commercial centre, but as a symbol of Torrevieja’s commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and civic pride—welcoming locals, seasonal residents, and international visitors to experience the very best of this dynamic Costa Blanca city.

Stay tuned—Torrevieja’s transformation is well under way.
