The Department of Culture of Orihuela has officially awarded the contract for the creation of the first comprehensive catalogue of the Miguel Hernández House-Museum collection. This landmark project will, for the first time, provide a structured, detailed, and global overview of the valuable pieces housed in one of the city’s most iconic cultural spaces.
Culture Councillor Anabel García emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “For over four decades, the House-Museum has served as a cultural beacon, connecting generations with the legacy of Miguel Hernández.” She added, “However, the museum also made evident the urgent need to safeguard its treasures through a formal catalogue that documents and describes the unique items preserved here.”
Celebrating 40 Years of the House-Museum
The publication of the catalogue coincides with the 40th anniversary of the museum’s opening. It represents a significant step toward the conservation, research, and public dissemination of the poet’s heritage. The catalogue will feature 4,000 printed copies, detailing and contextualizing the items in the collection, shedding new light on their significance and connection to the life and work of the Orihuela-born poet.
A Tool for Preservation and Cultural Outreach
“This catalogue is a valuable resource that will enhance cultural outreach and offer a deeper understanding of Miguel Hernández’s life and historical context,” said García. She also noted, “We firmly believe that culture is preserved not only through exhibitions but also through rigorous documentation, research, and sharing of heritage.”
The contract was initiated in March 2025, with the tender awarded to Producciones Mic, S.L., following a competitive evaluation process. The total value of the contract is €8,663.60, including VAT. The project is scheduled to be completed within 45 calendar days from the official notification of the award.
“This publication not only marks a historic milestone but also reinforces the role of the House-Museum as a key center for the study of one of the 20th century’s greatest poets,” García concluded. She highlighted that the catalogue will enrich public access to Hernández’s legacy and solidify the museum’s standing as a cornerstone of cultural heritage in Orihuela.
