Benejúzar, May 19, 2025 – The town of Benejúzar is set to take a significant step forward in its sustainability efforts with the creation of a permanent eco-park, aimed at improving waste management and reinforcing the municipality’s environmental commitments.
According to Mayor Vicente Cases, the new facility will “enhance selective waste collection and reduce environmental impact by providing residents with a convenient, accessible, and free service.” The project has moved forward following a technical site visit by representatives from the UTE Vega Baja waste management company and the Provincial Council of Alicante, including Luis Toral, Head of the Environmental Technical Unit.
Environmental Councillor José Antonio Martínez announced that the eco-park will be located on a municipally owned plot in the La Cerámica industrial estate, covering an area of approximately 2,500 square meters. Technical documentation for the construction will be drafted in the coming weeks. “This permanent facility addresses a long-standing need that is finally becoming a reality,” said Martínez. “It marks an important milestone in Benejúzar’s sustainability strategy and supports our environmental commitments at both the provincial and regional levels.”
Martínez also emphasized that the eco-park will play a vital role in raising awareness and promoting recycling among residents, while also helping to prevent illegal dumping in public areas and environmentally sensitive zones, such as the nearby mountains.
The new facility will be equipped to handle waste and materials that are not suitable for standard container disposal, including household appliances, small electronic devices, construction debris, furniture, oils, batteries, paint, and packaging.
Currently, Benejúzar participates in a mobile eco-park program operated by the Vega Baja Sustainable Consortium, which offers waste collection every Friday on Avenida de Jacarilla from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Mayor Cases praised the initiative, stating, “This is a decisive step in improving our local waste management—not only from an environmental standpoint, but also economically, as it will make recycling easier for residents.” He added, “We remain committed to solutions that enhance the quality of life in Benejúzar, building a cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally conscious community.”
