Prof. Jorge Alió has recently taken part in two high-level meetings aimed at sharing his vision on the latest advances in eye surgery. He participated in the 24th Conference on Cataracts and Refractive Surgery at the Mansoura Ophthalmology Centre in Egypt, which he co-organised, as well as in the course “Advances in current knowledge of ophthalmology: challenges and opportunities” at the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) in Cartagena. This reinforces his role as an international leader in refractive, cataract and corneal surgery.
From 20th to 21st November, the Professor of Ophthalmology and Honorary Researcher at the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) in Elche acted as moderator and keynote speaker at the 24th Conference on Cataracts and Refractive Surgery at the Ophthalmology Centre of Mansoura University in Egypt. The event was organised jointly by Vissum Miranza Alicante and the Egyptian Ophthalmological Society and was held via videoconference, featuring an extensive scientific agenda in which he participated in various sessions.
In this fourth edition of the Mansoura–Alicante Forum 2025, Dr. Jorge Alió spoke about new-generation phakic intraocular lenses, the latest techniques in refractive surgery after corneal transplantation, and the latest advances in biometric calculation. He also gave a keynote lecture on accommodative lenses, in which he addressed the debate on their effectiveness as the “Holy Grail” in presbyopia surgery. In addition, he presented a paper on surgery with KeraMed KPro artificial corneas and a presentation on bilensectomy within the block on complications with IOLs.
Jorge Alió was also the keynote speaker and coordinator of the course “Advances in current knowledge of ophthalmology: challenges and opportunities” at the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) in Cartagena, organised in collaboration with the Murcia Ophthalmology Society and the Chamber of Commerce.
In his lecture “Current situation and future prospects for implant refractive surgery”, he discussed the major challenges and transformations facing the specialty, drawing on his extensive experience, which includes more than 60,000 operations and over 100 international awards. He then coordinated a round table with national experts, where topics such as retinal diseases, the present and future of intraocular lenses, and diagnostic innovation were discussed.
These two presentations consolidate the seventh most influential and inspiring ophthalmologist in the world in cataract and refractive surgery according to “The Ophthalmologist Power List 2025”, being the only Spaniard among the top 50, as one of the most authoritative voices in the field of contemporary ophthalmology, always committed to medical education, surgical innovation and international cooperation.
