Orihuela has presented its 2026 Summer Sports Schools, one of the municipality’s most established summer programmes. This year’s main new feature is the expansion of the service to the CDM Playas de Orihuela municipal sports centre, extending the offer to the coast.

Sports councillor Víctor Sigüenza said the programme is one of the most important events in the municipality’s summer sports calendar, stressing that sport is not only about competition, but also education, health, values and support for family life.

The scheme is designed to provide families with a safe, structured environment where children can enjoy themselves, learn and take part in sport during the summer holidays, while helping parents and guardians manage work and childcare responsibilities.

The Summer Sports Schools will run for six weeks, from June 22 to July 31, 2026, with families able to choose the weeks that best suit their needs.

Activities will take place at the Palacio del Agua, the Espeñetas Municipal Sports Centre, and, for the first time, the CDM Playas de Orihuela, bringing the service closer to families in Orihuela Costa.

The programme will offer 124 places per week, giving a total of 744 places across the summer, plus eight specific places for children requiring diversity support.

The activities are aimed at children aged 5 to 12, divided into two age groups: 5 to 8 years and 9 to 12 years. There will also be specific places for children with disabilities, for which families must arrange a prior telephone appointment by calling 611 986 082.

Children will take part in team and individual sports, cooperative games, creative workshops, water activities, hiking and nature-based activities. The aim is to encourage learning through play, teamwork, respect, sharing and a healthy enjoyment of sport.

The sessions will run from Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 2:00pm, with a free early childcare service from 8:00am to 9:00am to further support families.

Prices have been set at €45 for five-day weeks and €36 for four-day weeks, which apply to the first and fourth weeks because of public holidays.
