Torrevieja, 15 May 2026 — Torrevieja Council’s Sports Department has announced that the municipal indoor swimming pool at the “Tavi y Carmona” Sports Palace will remain closed until further notice following the collapse of an air-conditioning duct on Thursday morning.
The council said a fault had previously been detected in the duct’s support fittings on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, exactly one month before the latest incident. As a precaution, the facility was closed immediately at the time to guarantee the safety of users.
The issue was then urgently referred to Serveo, the company awarded the contract for maintenance of municipal sports facilities, including the indoor pool.
According to the Sports Department, Serveo carried out the necessary work to correct, repair and resolve the fault, and also inspected the rest of the air-conditioning duct.
Once the work had been completed, the company assured the Sports Department that the facility was safe. As a result, the pool reopened on Saturday, 18 April, with the company also indicating that it could remain fully open until its scheduled summer closure.
However, following Thursday’s duct collapse, the Sports Department has requested a full report from Serveo detailing the work carried out and the causes of the incident.
The department apologised to all users for the inconvenience and said it is working to restore the service as quickly and safely as possible.
