Orihuela City Council has added a new backhoe loader to its municipal maintenance fleet to support repair and upkeep work across Orihuela Costa.

The machinery, incorporated by the public company Servicio de Gestión Medioambiental de Orihuela (SGM), was presented by mayor Pepe Vegara, Infrastructure councillor Víctor Valverde and Coast councillor Manuel Mestre.

The vehicle will be used for road and public-space maintenance, including demolition work, debris removal, trench digging for pipes and kerbs, and beach-related tasks such as installing and removing walkways, adapted pergolas and foot-washing facilities.

Mayor Pepe Vegara said the addition would allow teams to respond more quickly and plan work with greater autonomy.

Infrastructure councillor Víctor Valverde said the new equipment would reduce the need to rent specialist machinery for routine jobs, helping to optimise municipal resources.

Coast councillor Manuel Mestre said the investment would improve the council’s ability to meet residents’ needs and keep public areas in better condition throughout the year.

The backhoe loader forms part of Orihuela City Council’s wider effort to reinforce maintenance services along the Orihuela coastline.
