As an expert in the subspecialty of refractive surgery, he was part of the scientific program committee of this event held in Bali

 

One more year, Dr. Jorge Alió was invited to the Congress of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) forming part of its scientific program committee as an expert in the subspecialty of refractive surgery. Thus, at the 39th APAO Congress, held from February 22nd to 25th in Bali (Indonesia), the professor of Ophthalmology at the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche gave eight presentations and several interventions in various issues of great interest for visual health.

 

Dr. Alió, ranked 12th in ‘The Ophthalmologist Power List 2023‘ ranking of the 100 most influential and inspiring ophthalmologists in the world, being the only Spanish doctor present; He began the first day of this meeting by participating in the session on new developments in the treatment of presbyopia, offering a talk on accommodating intraocular lenses. Subsequently, he participated in the second plenary session of the 39th APAO Congress and participated as moderator in the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology (APJO) award ceremony in which the 10 most cited articles (2021-2023) were awarded.

 

On the second day, February 23rd it was the turn to talk about the indications and techniques for exchanging IOL lenses, in which Jorge Alió presented the presentation ‘IOL exchange of one MIOL to another MIOL’. Later he debated what is true, what is false and what works in the correction of presbyopia, with the conference ‘Accommodative IOL lenses are now available!’. Likewise, he shared his experience in managing complicated cases in a new session with other ophthalmology professionals.

 

The founder of the Vissum ophthalmological clinics (Miranza Group) was also speaking at the event on February 24th regarding innovations and updates on the best indications in phakic IOL lenses, giving the presentation ‘Posterior chamber phakic IOLs in special cases’ . In addition, he discussed new approaches to the treatment of corneal blindness within the International Academy of Ophthalmology (AOI) ‘Improving Anterior Segment Care’ symposium and discussed Eyecryl phakic IOL lenses in special situations.

 

Finally, Professor Alió co-chaired and participated on February 25th in the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) symposium on how to manage and solve complications of multifocal IOL lenses. To this end, he shared with the audience the conference ‘Treatment of neuroadaptation failure after a multifocal IOL with exchange of multifocal IOL for another multifocal IOL’.

 

The APAO Congress is Asia-Pacific’s leading ophthalmic scientific and professional event, presenting the latest advances and innovations to prepare today’s ophthalmologists for an ever-evolving future of eye care.
