Lidl has opened its first supermarket in Pilar de la Horadada after investing more than €5 million in the new store, which has created 21 jobs.

Located at 18 Avenida de la Torre, the supermarket has more than 1,450 square metres of retail space and parking for 100 vehicles. It also has three electric vehicle charging points. The store is open from Monday to Saturday, 9am to 9.30pm, with Sunday opening during the Easter and summer seasons.

The building includes more than 530 square metres of solar panels, which Lidl says generate enough electricity to cover 30% of its consumption. Other energy-saving features include LED lighting and automated controls.

The opening was attended by Pilar de la Horadada Mayor José María Pérez Sánchez and Lidl regional director Miquel Alberola. Alberola said Alicante province was a strategic priority for the company, while the mayor welcomed the investment and its contribution to local jobs and commerce.

The new store adds to Lidl’s network of 86 supermarkets in the Valencian Community, where it employs more than 1,700 people. The chain has more than 730 stores across Spain.
