A 19-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man have died following a head-on collision between two cars on the N-332 in Benissa.
The accident occurred at approximately 11.46am on Saturday, August 8, near kilometre 177 on the Benissa bypass. Two other people—a 27-year-old adult and a nine-year-old child—were injured and taken by ambulance to Dénia Hospital.
All four occupants were trapped inside the wreckage following the collision. Before emergency teams arrived, a doctor and a nurse who happened to be travelling along the road stopped and provided initial assistance after alerting the emergency services.
The regional Emergency Information and Coordination Centre dispatched two Basic Life Support ambulances and two SAMU advanced medical units. Despite the efforts of those at the scene, paramedics confirmed the deaths of the two victims.
Fire crews from Benissa and Dénia carried out a complex rescue operation to free the occupants from the damaged vehicles. The response included a heavy urban fire engine, a command unit and a specialist rescue vehicle.
Police closed the affected section of the N-332 while emergency crews worked at the scene, with traffic diverted onto alternative routes.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
