Club Balonmano Mare Nostrum Torrevieja brought their 2025/26 campaign to a close with a 37–31 defeat away to Club Balonmano Algemesí, finishing the season 11th in the table with 24 points.
The final round clash, played at the Pabellón 9 de Octubre in Algemesí, kicked off simultaneously with the rest of the league fixtures as positions at both ends of the standings remained undecided. For the hosts, the stakes were clear—they needed a win to secure survival, and they delivered under pressure.
The game unfolded at a high tempo, with attacking efficiency outweighing defensive solidity on both sides. Despite being depleted by several absences, the Torrevieja side competed strongly and remained in contention deep into the second half. With 15 minutes remaining, Algemesí held only a narrow 29–27 lead, leaving the outcome finely balanced.
However, buoyed by home support, the Valencian side pulled away in the closing stages to seal a crucial victory and confirm their place in the division.
For Mare Nostrum, the match marked more than just the end of the season—it signalled the close of an era. The club bid farewell to five long-serving players, including homegrown talents Aarón Álvarez, Salva Esteve and Marco Box. Also departing are leading scorer Rubén Ruiz and veteran captain Rafa Ballester, who ends an extraordinary career spanning 22 seasons at senior level and 31 years with the club.
The club expressed its gratitude for their commitment and contribution, while also thanking supporters for their backing throughout the campaign, as it looks ahead to a new chapter.
