Torrevieja, October 2025 — The Torrevieja Council has taken a major step forward in safeguarding and enhancing its coastline, unanimously approving a motion requesting investment from the Spanish Government for coastal regeneration projects.

Presented by the Partido Popular (PP), the motion received full backing from all municipal parties, including the PSOE, Vox, and Sueña Torrevieja, demonstrating a strong commitment across the council to preserve and improve the city’s beaches.

The motion calls on the Ministry for Ecological Transition to support ongoing and planned projects, particularly following recent storm damage. It highlights the City Council’s own €15 million investment in coastal improvements, which includes the complete renovation of the La Mata pedestrian path and upcoming enhancements to the Los Locos beach promenade.

The motion also requests government collaboration on defence works for Cura Beach, with a focus on adjusting the plans to protect existing historic structures such as the “El Tintero” bastion. Additionally, it urges the inclusion of a dedicated line in the 2026 General State Budget for coastal defence and regeneration, supporting projects that will be executed by the City Council, including the redevelopment of Los Locos Beach scheduled for next year.

Mayor and council officials emphasized that the unanimous approval reflects the city’s determination to combine sustainable coastal management with tourism and community enjoyment, ensuring Torrevieja’s beaches remain safe, attractive, and resilient for residents and visitors alike.

With all parties aligned, the city moves closer to securing the funding and support needed to continue enhancing its coastal heritage and promoting long-term environmental sustainability.
