The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, and the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, have signed a collaboration agreement between the Madrid City Council and the Torrevieja City Council for the tourist promotion of both cities.

The signing took place at the Community of Madrid stand at the Madrid International Tourism Fair (FITUR), and was attended by the president of the Alicante Provincial Council, Carlos Mazón.

This general protocol is a declaration of intent from both municipalities to collaborate in the promotion of projects, actions and initiatives that will improve tourism of both cities.

Torrevieja and Madrid are two cities that have maintained ties for years, not only as a tourist destination but also as a second residence for many families from Madrid, enjoying a constant exchange of visitors between both destinations.

“This is an important agreement that will allow us to promote different tourist products in the capital at a national level, especially our gastronomy, the Habaneras and Polyphony contests, and the Torrevieja Carnival, among others”, have been the words of the mayor of Torrevieja after signing this important agreement for both cities.

José Luis Martínez-Almeida highlighted that “the signing of this agreement is to further develop a relationship that Torrevieja and Madrid have had for a long time, forged by so many people from Madrid who have Torrevieja as their second home and place of releaxation. Bonds of union that became even stronger after the help provided by the city during the Filomena storm and the shipment of salt to alleviate the damage caused by the storm”.

Both councils commit with this agreement to promote and propose tourism promotion exchanges in which different advertising and marketing actions are shared, aimed at potential tourists with an urban profile and cultural, gastronomic, experiences, sports interests, among others. All this with the aim of generating in both destinations an increase in visitors on weekend getaways and long weekends.
