A woman drowned on Tuesday in the vicinity of Cala del Palangre, between Los Locos beach and Punta Margallo. According to the local press a witness alerted 112 emergency services, about 7.30 pm that he had seen the woman get into the water and swim to the prohibited section of the beach area that is clearly market with buoys. He said that at that point he lost sight of her.
Shortly afterwards a body appeared floating face down. It was a little further south, in the area of rocky coastline, close to the promenade of Punta Margallo and the Avenida de la Purisima.
Although officers from the Civil Guard and the Local Police carried out resuscitation manoeuvres for more than fifteen minutes, the woman was confirmed dead upon the arrival of medics and an ambulance.
Sources report that the woman, believed to be homeless, had been living rough in one of the small abandoned buildings that are on the coastline where she died.
