Benijofar 3 v. Daya Nueva 1

The home side started brightly and within a minute Antonio in the Daya goal had to rush out and just managed to kick the ball clear.

Daya put together a good move on five minutes but Alex’ shot from distance was well wide of the target.  It was Benijofar controlling the game now and they looked the more likely to score and soon !

On fourteen minutes the first goal came but not from the home side.  With Daya on a rare attack Rocamora spotted the keeper well out of his area and from thirty meters his well judged lobb sailed over the keeper and into the net to put the visitors 1-0 up.  Still the home side poured forward and there was just no way that they would not score soon !  As the half wore on Daya’s confidence began to grow and they started to produce some good football but a quick free kick from the home side on thirty minutes led to the equaliser.

From a corner on thirty three minutes Daya’s Antonio made a great save from point blank range as the home side again assumed control of the game.  On thirty five minutes from a good run down the left Benijofar saw their fierce shot just go wide of the upright.  Moments later after another good attack and cross it should have been the second goal for the home side but the miss was spectacular !

On the stroke of half time following a free kick that was blocked, Daya failed to clear their lines giving the home side the easiest of chances to go in at the break deservedly 2-1 up.

Daya started the second period with a good attack that should have produced a goal but it did not.  It was not long before Benijofar were calling the tune again and looked sure to add to their tally.  On fifty two and fifty three minutes the home side spurned two good chances.

Daya were not exactly laying down but they were just not on the same technical level as their opponents.  The home side were guilty of yet another glaring miss when clean through on the Daya goal on fifty eight minutes.  On seventy minutes the home side’s third goal arrived following some nice build up play, although their final pass looked suspiciously offside !

Daya lived dangerously again on seventy five minutes allowing Benijofar clean through but the finish left a lot to be desired.  Daya had a great chance on seventy nine minutes but their shot was too weak to beat the keeper.  The visitors were now playing their best football of the match but it was surely too late to salvage anything from the game.  In the last few minutes Antonio made a good save to deny the home side a fourth goal.

From a promising position in their opponents penalty area Daya wasted a great opportunity to pull a goal back but blasted the shot over the bar just as the final whistle blew.  Although the scoreline may suggest otherwise Daya were not really at the races today.  Benijofar could and should at least have doubled their score but their finishing was woeful.
