Torrevieja, November 2 — Mare Nostrum Torrevieja claimed their second consecutive victory in the 1st National Division (Group E) after defeating Balonmano Castellón 33–30 away from home. A strong second-half performance proved decisive for Alberto Rodríguez’s side, who now move up to seventh place in the standings.
The first half was evenly matched, with both teams tied 17–17 at the break. Castellón’s offense caused trouble early on, but Mare Nostrum found their rhythm through the sharp shooting of Rubén Ruiz, who once again led the team with 11 goals.
After halftime, the visitors tightened their defense and capitalized on counterattacks to pull ahead by four goals (24–20) midway through the half. By the 52nd minute, they extended their lead to seven (31–24), appearing to have the game under control. However, Castellón mounted a late comeback, cutting the gap to just two goals in the closing minutes (31–29).
Despite the pressure, Mare Nostrum held firm, scoring twice more to seal a 33–30 victory and secure two valuable points on the road. The result marks their fourth win in five matches, bringing their total to nine points, only three shy of the promotion playoff spots.
Mare Nostrum will next face Club Balonmano Petrer at home on Saturday, November 8, at the Pabellón Cecilio Gallego.
