Villajoyosa will become a major international rugby hub later this month when the 39th Costa Blanca International Rugby Sevens Tournament returns on 23 and 24 May 2026.
The tournament, regarded as the oldest Rugby Sevens event in Spain, will take place at the Villajoyosa Rugby Stadium on Pantano Road, bringing together 20 international teams across the men’s and women’s competitions.
This year’s line-up features 12 men’s teams and eight women’s teams, with national sides and invited teams from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
The men’s competition includes teams from Ukraine, China, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Poland, Finland, Portugal and Lithuania, alongside invited sides including Beltway USA, Alcatraz from Venezuela, Switzers from Switzerland, Euskarians and Pyrenees from France.
The women’s tournament will feature Kazakhstan, Norway, Austria, Poland, Moldova and Hungary, together with invited teams Switzers and Costa Blanca La Vila.
Play gets under way on Saturday, 23 May, with matches scheduled across both days. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals will take place on Sunday afternoon.
A total of 54 matches will be played, with games made up of two seven-minute halves and seven players per side on a full-size pitch, guaranteeing a fast, high-scoring spectacle.
The tournament will be officiated by 12 international referees from England, New Zealand, Argentina, Wales, Ireland and Spain.
Prize money totalling €5,000 will be awarded, with the winners of both the men’s and women’s tournaments receiving €2,000 and the runners-up taking €500.
Tickets cost €10 per day, with free entry for children under 12. Tickets are available at the box office and online through Entradium.
Organised by Costa Blanca Rugby Club, the event is supported by Villajoyosa City Council, the Valencian Regional Government, Alicante Provincial Council, the Valencian Community Sports Federation and the Valencian Community Rugby Federation.
