A bit like something from Jurassic Park were the mosquitoes at Font del Llop today – they were certainly getting their starters, mains, desserts and a bit of tapas to boot from anybody who didn’t have insect repellent.  They were a far different species from the tiny “no-seem-us” on the Orihuela Costa.

And onto the day and golf …. the temperature was already rising and with the cloud cover of the incoming Calima, it felt rather steamy!  The course was in fluffy condition and could have done with a good grass-cut.  They had micro-tined the greens which did make them quite slow and difficult, but the greens didn’t show a huge amount of damage from pitch-marks which was in some ways quite positive.

40 “mozzie-fodders” teed off down the first, having loosened up on the range, ready for the course, that is a challenge to most.  One incapacitated member observing on a certain hole, noted and commented today, that into the present wind required a two-club increase – some took notice, some didn’t – the winners took notice ironically!

Three “Twos” today from Paul Wainwright (3rd), Gavin Parke (8th) and Richard Whitely (17th) today and Nearest the Pins from Dave Rowe (3rd), Colin Rispin (8th), Dave Rowe (12th), Jan Skog (16th) and Richard Whitely (17th).

We had a clear “winner/loser” winning the McBride Bottle but losing with the worst score of *!$%! coming from Drew Niblock.  One of our Elder Statesmen, Norman Padmore, took the football card pot with Wigan.  Well done everybody – win or lose.

On to this week’s winners:

Gold: Dave Rowe (43 points and best score of the day)
Silver: Jan Skog (38 points)
Bronze: Keith Wickham (41 points)

Next week we are at Altaona for our Captain’s Away “Not-Away” Day.
