A fire at a residential property in Torrevieja on Tuesday evening led to the full evacuation of a five-storey building, as emergency services worked tirelessly to bring the blaze under control.
The incident occurred at a first-floor apartment on Calle Virgen de la Paloma. Flames and thick smoke were clearly visible from the street, with the fire spreading from the balcony and causing damage to part of the building’s façade.
Firefighters prioritised the safe evacuation of all residents while working to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring flats and communal areas.
No injuries have been reported following the incident, although the operation remains ongoing.
The emergency response included a command unit, a heavy fire engine and a ladder truck, supported by a team from the Torrevieja fire station comprising a sergeant, a corporal and six firefighters.
The incident occurred just four days after another fire last Friday damaged four homes at the intersection of Ramón Gallud and Calle María Parodi.
As with that earlier fire, the immediate spread of images and videos on social media without further information has caused alarm and fuelled false rumours that people were trapped inside the building.
