The Orihuela City Council’s Health Department has unveiled a new initiative aimed at preventing addictions among young people: an escape room experience titled “Choose a Life of Excitement, Not Addiction.”
Set during a lively party night, participants must make choices throughout the game that affect its outcome, allowing them to explore the consequences of different decisions in a safe and engaging environment.
The activity will take place at the María Moliner Municipal Library and is designed for youths aged 13 and up. Sessions for schools are scheduled on December 11 and 12, while December 13 is open to the general public from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with free entry.
According to Health Councillor Irene Celdrán, the escape room aims to promote critical thinking, emotional management, self-care, awareness of peer pressure, and discussions about addiction. The program was developed in collaboration with prevention specialists, educational psychologists, and youth leisure professionals.
María Ortuño, from the organizing company, highlighted the strong reception the escape room has received in other cities. More than 500 teenagers have already participated, with many noting how clearly the activity communicates its key message about addiction prevention.
