Vapes Go Up in Smoke — Spain’s Ministry of Health is cracking down hard on both smokers and vapers, with a sweeping new anti-tobacco law set to ban lighting up in terraces, work vehicles, university campuses, pools, and party venues. And yes — that includes your beloved vape pen.
Health Minister Mónica García made it crystal clear: there’s no safe smoke — and that goes for those fruity e-cigs too. “There is no such thing as healthy tobacco,” she declared before Congress this week, slamming the vape industry for “luring in new consumers” with flavors and flashy marketing.
The new law, expected to enter public hearing in just a few weeks, will treat vapes and heated tobacco the same as traditional cigarettes. That means no puffing on bar terraces, no sneaky drags at the beach, and no clouds at campus hangouts. If it’s a public or shared space, your vape is officially unwelcome.
But that’s not all. The government is also eyeing tighter rules on e-cigarette flavors — calling them a “strategy to hook the young” — and planning limits on nicotine pouches, which, in some cases, García claims pack up to ten times the amount of nicotine allowed in medical quit-smoking aids.
The goal? A smoke-free generation by 2040.
While the full draft law still has to make its way through the Council of Ministers and then Congress, the message from the Ministry is loud and clear: whether it’s tobacco or tech, the puffing days in public are numbered.
So if you were hoping for a chilled summer drag on your favourite terrace — you might want to enjoy it while you still can.
