The doctor attended the American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery (AECOS) in London and the Congress of the European Society of Ophthalmology in Lisbon

He presented the innovative Lumina intraocular lens for cataract and presbyopia that adapts to the patient, restoring their range of vision

The most important meetings held in Europe for ophthalmology professionals have had the active participation of Dr. Jorge Alió. This way, the Professor of Ophthalmology and Honorary Researcher of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche travelled to London to attend the 2025 Symposium of AECOS (American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery).

There, he moderated the session “Case Reports” together with Dr. William Wiley and gave a presentation on accommodative lenses, with a special focus on the Lumina accommodative intraocular lens (AIOL).

This novel autofocusing lens is the result of more than 14 years of study by Professor Jorge Alió as director and principal investigator. It is an innovation that has improved the vision of patients undergoing cataract and presbyopia surgery by restoring the full range of vision and accommodation without having to wear glasses, allowing them to see clear images at all distances, including up close.

In Spain, Dr. Alió is the only approved ophthalmologist, having already implanted more than 250 lenses in clinical studies. In addition, since 2024 it has been marketed in Europe with the CE mark.

The scientific breakthrough of the Lumina accommodative intraocular lens, whose design adapts precisely to the patient, also featured in the “Innovations in Cataract and Refractive Surgery” session at SOE 2025, the European Ophthalmological Society Congress held in Lisbon.

The 7th Most Influential and Inspirational Ophthalmologist in the World in Cataract and Refractive Surgery in “The Ophthalmologist Power List 2025”, the only Spanish doctor among the top 50, gave four lectures. He addressed topics such as the viability of accommodative IOLs and the quality of vision with premium IOLs.

It was also an opportunity to talk about “Cataract surgery in keratoconus”, of which Alió is one of the leading international experts.FOR FURTHER INFORMATION 966 615 333 // www.doctorjorgealio.com/en
