BENFERRI C.F. 1 – C.D. MONTESINOS 2

With four key players missing due to injuries and suspensions, we made the short trip to Benferri determined to get back to winning ways after two losses and a draw in our last three matches.

As always, a large group of Monte fans travelled to support the team. Benferri’s stadium is small and compact, having been rebuilt after the original ground was completely destroyed by the devastating DANA storm that hit Vega Baja a few years ago.

Despite missing players in key positions, manager Willy had to make tactical adjustments, playing some out of position, but the team remained mostly solid and well-organized.

The opening 15 minutes were evenly contested until young Anderson broke the deadlock in the 17th minute with a spectacular goal. Picking up the ball just outside the opposition’s box, he skipped past a couple of defenders before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner—worth the entrance fee alone!

Both teams had opportunities following the opener, but Monte held onto the 1-0 lead as the halftime whistle blew.

HT: 0-1

The second half followed a similar pattern, with both sides creating chances but struggling to convert. Willy made four substitutions: Esquiva, Paco, and Adrián entered the fray, while Abdul came on later in the game.

Our second goal came with a slice of fortune. A well-worked attack down the wing led to a cross into the Benferri box, where a mistake by the home goalkeeper gifted Arturo an easy tap-in to double our lead in the 72nd minute.

However, Monte never does things the easy way. In the 79th minute, Benferri capitalized on poor defending from a corner to pull one back, making for a nervy final stretch of the match.

Despite the late pressure, Monte controlled the closing minutes and held on to secure all three points.

We now sit in 5th place with 28 points, trailing the league leaders by six and second-place Santa Pola by just two.

Our preseason target of reaching 35-36 points—widely considered enough to ensure survival at this level—is now within reach.

Next week, we host Alicante side CD Betis Florida. Kick-off details will follow.
