Next Sunday, 17th March, Cabo Roig will host the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. At a press conference on Thursday, Orihuela Costa councillor, Manuel Mestre, said that “This year it will be a special parade with the participation of an important political and social figure: Pat The Cope Gallagher.”

“It is a very important event in Orihuela Costa,” said the councillor, highlighting the social relevance it has for Orihuela. “From the first moment that the community contacted us to get the support of the Ayuntamiento we have been delighted to help where we can.”

The Orihuela Costa councillor praised the commitment of the community in organising the Saint Patrick’s Parade and expressed the firm support of the Ayuntamiento in making it a success.

He also spoke of the efforts of the council to ensure that the parade route is prepared. “We have supported the preparation of the entire parade route and participated with merchandising, posters, etc.”. And, in response to repeated requests from the organisers, concrete measures have been taken to improve the environment of the event, “we have trimmed palm trees which has not been done for a long time,” he said.

In relation to the cultural diversity of Orihuela Costa, he emphasised the importance of the Department of International Residents. “It is the responsibility of the Ayuntamiento to promote and support all these social movements in the various aspects of culture, leisure and festivities. In fact, one of our projects for next year is to hold the festival of all nations in Orihuela Costa,” he explained.

The Saint Patrick’s Day parade, a celebration rooted in Irish tradition, is an eagerly awaited event every year in Orihuela Costa. This year, it will have the participation of prominent personalities such as Pat The Cope Gallagher, who served more than 25 years in the Irish Parliament and 10 years in the European Parliament.

The parade will feature over 50 former members of the Irish Army, as well as floats, dance troupes, motorbikes, vintage cars and a variety of characters and bands, making it one of the most vibrant parades in Europe. The parade will start at 15:00 hours in Cabo Roig, Orihuela Costa.

Manuel Mestre, encouraged all citizens to join in the celebration of the Saint Patrick’s Day parade. “It remains for me to encourage all the people of Orihuela to participate in the parade, to enjoy the music and the comparsas that we are going to have”.
