On the 6th. March 32 players ‘teed it up’ at Altorreal to compete for the Society’s first ‘Major’ of the year, our ‘Claret Jug’ The weather for playing golf was perfect, however the scores in general did not reflect this fact.

The main reason I believe was the very dry, almost scorched conditions of both the fairways and ‘greens’,. good shots often ran off the fairways into waste areas or areas from which a recovery shot was difficult.

Furthermore, the very conditions made it difficult to ‘hold’ the greens, if fortunate enough to get there ! It also made it very difficult to make scoring putts, particularly the pins which were placed on sloping parts of the green, which quite a few were.

Clearly, given the drought conditions in many parts of Spain, and if the drought conditions persist, it is probable that many golf courses may have to close, at least until we have more rain.

As usual we returned to the Lo Crispin Tavern, where Tapas was supplied and the day’s prizes were distributed.
