This Thursday, 29th February, the fourth edition of the Artichoke School Olympics will be held from 10am to about 1.30pm at the Estadio Municipal Sadrián in Almoradi.

It is a competition in which around 300 fifth year primary schoolchildren from 7 schools in Almoradí, Dolores and Orihuela are taking part, which forms part of the programme prior to the National Artichoke Congress, the main events of which are being held this weekend in Almoradí.

The Olympics consist of 10 competitions combining sport, music, leisure and questions about artichoke knowledge. In addition, this year as a novelty there will be a game of artichoke on a giant board of 4 x 3 metres.

The tests are 7 x 100 artichoke (relay race); artichoke throwing (emulating javelin throwing); artichoke rap; artichoke peeling race; writing an artichoke recipe; a maths problem related to the sector; the giant artichoke game; a slalom and artichoke-box sorting test called trust me, the artichoke test and the artichoke basket in the goal (the container used by farmers to throw the artichokes in when they cut them).
