The catering contract for the cafeteria at the Alameda del Mar civic centre has not produced the expected results. Indeed, following the award of a new contract last year, the cafeteria has not been operating for many weeks. Now, the Department of Social Welfare announced that it was once again putting the service out to tender after terminating the contract signed just four months ago “due to repeated non-compliance by the contractor Ilitia Mediterránea, SL.”

The council says that it regrets, “there have been numerous occasions of non-compliance by the winning company.” The report, according to the City Council, indicates non-compliance with opening and closing hours, when the specifications, they say, establish that the cafeteria has to remain open the same hours that the centre is providing a service, every day of the week (including Saturdays and Sundays) “on November 7, 8, 9 and 10 the cafeteria was permanently closed without prior notice or explanation.

Indeed, the service was effectively abandoned on November 7 since which time the facility has had no cafeteria service.
