A fugitive wanted in connection with a homicide in Romania has been arrested in Elche after attacking a local police officer and fleeing on a scooter.

A Local Police crew, while carrying out surveillance duties in the Carrús area, observed how a driver of an electric scooter was traveling on the road in the opposite direction. The officers stopped him and whilst they were getting out of the police vehicle to identify him, he began to flee along the pavement, ignoring the instructions and endangering the lives of the rest of the pedestrians.

Quickly, one of the police officers chased him several metres, until finally, the driver lost control of the scooter, fell to the ground and the officer was able to catch up with him while receiving several kicks. The arrested man threatened the agents on several occasions.

At that moment the other police officer arrived and helped his partner subdue him since he was putting up great resistance, even causing injuries to the knee of one of the officers.

Once reduced, he was asked for documentation, and he completely refused to provide it both to the agents and later to the health personnel at the health centre. During the search, the police seized four aluminium foil wrappers containing marijuana.

During the transfer and custody, the person involved aggressively hit the police vehicle, uttering insults and threats such as: “I know what time you come and leave work, I’m going to wait for you and I’m going to hire two Moors to run you over”, and I “I’m going to cut you with a machete.”

When he was identified by fingerprint at the Police Station, it was found that he had a national arrest warrant issued by the Central Inspection Court number 3 of Madrid for a homicide committed in Romania. Due to what happened, the 39-year-old man was arrested.
