The new House of Culture and the adjacent Holy Week Museum could be finished sometime during the summer. That is the most optimistic forecast that the current council is able to provide, following the visit to the building site by the Consell delegate in Alicante, Agustina Esteve.
The two buildings, which will also house the Centre for Musical, Museum and Performing Arts (Canme), occupy a plot of 11,000 square metres between Calle Reina Sofía, Avenida Lo Alegre and Los Lebreles.
The House of Culture alone occupies 4,250 metres, and will feature two museums, a temporary exhibition hall, two libraries, two study rooms, laboratories, archives, warehouses, meeting rooms and multipurpose classrooms.
The work went out to tender with a budget of 4,372,068 euros and a completion period of twelve months.
The Holy Week Museum will occupy 1,707 metres and will bring together all of the different groups and the belongings of the eight brotherhoods. The work was carried out with a budget of 1,255,124 euros and a completion period of eight months.
Until now, the Council points out that everything has been financed with its own funds although an approach was made during Esteve’s visit to try to obtain the necessary financial support from the Generalitat to fulfil the project in its entirety which would then include the auditorium and the conservatory.
In a press release, the Consell delegate said that one of Carlos Mazón’s priorities is to “collaborate as much as possible with local councils” but did not express any specific commitment to the people of Pilar. Nevertheless, the mayor of Pilar de la Horadada, José María Pérez, still informed Esteve of the main actions he has underway, and the initiatives planned in the town for the future.
