Algueña C.F. 3-3 C.D. Montesinos

A trip to Algueña is always eventful. The journey, with some spectacular scenery on the way there, is amazing and well worth the hour or so drive.

Our games up there have always been action packed for many different reasons and this one was no different.

A game of 2 halves and we can certainly say that our 1st half was not our best (me being diplomatic here). It is also fair to say that Algueña were as poor as we were.

We were, for long periods, well off our game and they took the lead with a great free-kick, and kept that lead to half time.

Willy made 2 changes as Vadim and Richard (injured) were replaced. We sat back expecting a much improved performance. Alas, Algueña scored early in the second half when our keeper (who appeared to be impeded), failed to clear the ball.

2-0 to the home side and all uphill for us.

More substitutions as Manu and Lucas came on and Enrique pulled one back, 2-1 and game on. Or so we thought!

A crazy situation at the back between our keeper and Gocu saw the ball bounce into our net for 3-1. Surely that was that. No coming back from that setback, surely?

But this team, built in haste (or so we thought), doesn’t know when to give up.

Enrique got his and our second and then, as we pushed forward and they panicked, a poor goal-kick from their keeper, came to Lucas who smashed it over the home keeper from all of 30 yards. 3-3 and now it did appear as if we could go on to win the game.

Alas, Diego was given a straight red for a tackle which looked high. This red, added to the 2 reds we got on the bench (Fernando and one of our coaches), plus a handful of yellows (they also picked up a load of yellows including their people on the bench).

The extra 10/12 minutes played added to the tension in a match which had almost everything.

But we stay top of the group for another week and with the visit next Sunday of rivals C.D. Cox to the Cauldron, another exciting and vital match awaits us.

Certainly we will need as many of you there next week as possible.
