Elche town hall has announced plans to invest about 595,000 euro this year in the renovation and modernisation of children’s playgrounds in the municipality, one of which will be in plaza La Glea in La Marina.

The plan was announced by the Councillor for Maintenance, Héctor Díez, who stressed that so far more than 600,000 euro have been invested in this type of action. “So far this legislature we have acted in more than 25 large children’s play areas and this year we will continue in this line, since we are aware that we must respond to neighbourhood demands.”

“Among the objectives set by the Municipal Government for this legislature is the modernisation of public space in neighbourhoods and districts, making a special effort in those elements most used by citizens when enjoying squares and gardens and, without a doubt, children’s games are one of those elements that are most in demand and used”, said Díez, who added that “our purpose is, on the one hand, to improve and modernise the image of Elche’s children’s playgrounds, but at the same time to certify their approval because the passage of time leads to regulatory changes to which they must be adapted”.

The person in charge of maintenance has indicated that this modernisation gives rise to the incorporation of elements that respond to the needs that are occurring in the municipality. “They must be inclusive games, adapted, that contemplate realities through pictograms and that diversify their theme, since until now children’s games were the same in all neighbourhoods and districts,” said Héctor Díez, who pointed out that they must be a place to practice physical activity for the little ones and a place to socialise and develop their motor skills.

Regarding the action that is going to be carried out in La Marina, the councillor explained that “we have awarded the works for the modernisation and improvement of plaza La Glea, which will have a budget of 33,000 euro and that it intends to act on more than 170 square metres of play area”.

The games that are going to be placed in La Marina are themed around hot air balloons and will have different types of elements for play, such as slides, climbing nets, swings, panel games and adapted elements.

The maintenance area is already working on other actions such as the modernisation of games in the Jardín de Andalucía and in the district of El Altet.
