National Police officers have arrested a man from Belgium who is accused of child pornography and the rape of a 13 year old gir,l between September 2017 and May 2020, in the Belgian town of Begijnendijk, 25 km to the east of Brussels.
The arrest took place in an urbanisation of Gran Alacant in the municipality of Santa Pola.
The detainee, who is understood to be 78 years of age, is accused of carrying out the acts at his home on a number of different occasions. If found guilty he faces a sentence of 20 years in prison.
Following his detention he was placed at the disposal of the Central Court of Instruction number Five of the National High Court, which will be in charge of deciding on his extradition.
