On Friday 2nd December Montgo Golf Society played a medal competition at Oliva Nova for the Totalcare Champions Cup, sponsored by John and Mary Feek of Totalcare Property Services. This was our final trophy competition of the year, and to qualify members must have won a singles competition in 2016.

With a couple of absentees due to injury and illness there were 24 members qualified to play, however there was also a separate medal competition for the other members who had not qualified. The heavy rain of the previous few days relented to give us a beautiful sunny morning and perfect golfing conditions, however the wet fairways and fast greens made scoring very difficult.

The competition for the non-qualifiers actually returned the better scores on the day with Penny Barden taking first prize with a fine 71 off 13.7, closely followed by Bob Marsden with a net 72 off 28.1. In third place was Gerian Van Ooijen with a net 75 off 6.7 and all three scores would have been in the prizes for the champions Cup if they were qualified.

As it was George Braddick took the Champions Cup with a net 74 off 13.7 to round off a fine end to the season. Susie Snelling was second with a net 76 off 18, and Neil Carter was third with a net 77 off 11.5. There were nearest the pin prizes on all the par three’s, with Nigel Siddall taking the 3rd, Brian Redfearn the 6th, Simon Fox the 11th,  and Dennis Hammond the 16th. In the longest drive competition Ros Fletcher won the ladies prize, however managed to turn an excellent drive in to a scruffy seven.

Not to be outdone in the men’s category Ed Wallace did even better by scoring ten off his huge tee shot, and still had the nerve to collect his bottle of cava. There were just two 2’s, scored by Nigel Siddall and Gerian van Ooijen.

Our next event, on Friday the 16th December, will be our final game of the season when we will be playing our Christmas Texas Scramble at Oliva Nova, sponsored by Gerian van Ooijen and Francien Knoops.

Members are encouraged to wear their seasonal costumes and there will be a special prize for the best dressed Santa. Guests are welcome, subject to availability and a current handicap certificate, and should register by visiting the website at www.montgogolfsociety.net and completing an online booking form.
