Torrevieja’s municipal Parks and Gardens Service has completed maintenance and improvement work in more than a dozen public green spaces despite the extreme temperatures recorded during July.
Work included pruning, grass cutting, cleaning, general upkeep and repairs to irrigation systems. Teams were deployed to locations including Reina de la Sal Park, La Siesta Park, Plaza de la Constitución, Plaza del Calvario, Plaza Natalio Sáez, Avenida del Agua, Mar Azul and Los Altos.
Irrigation networks were inspected and repaired to protect vegetation during the summer, when demand for water is at its highest.
Specialist work was also carried out along the canal in Molino del Agua Park. The fountain on Paseo Vista Alegre was repaired following damage reportedly caused by large crowds celebrating Spain’s victory in the World Cup final.
The council said maintenance continued throughout the successive heatwaves, with working arrangements adapted to weather conditions. Preventive measures were introduced to protect employees from excessive heat while allowing essential work to continue.
Torrevieja has more than 360 parks, gardens and other green areas requiring year-round maintenance.
Parks and Gardens councillor Concha Sala praised municipal teams for continuing their work under difficult conditions.
“Maintenance of our green spaces does not stop during the summer,” she said. “Careful planning and the necessary preventive measures have protected workers while ensuring that our parks and gardens remain in the best possible condition for residents and visitors.”
