This is the eighth year we have played for this cup, sadly Tony Whyatt passed away seven years ago but fellow members and friends Andy Godfrey and Alan Martin have taken the sponsorship in Tony’s memory.
This was our first visit this season to Vistabella, the course was in reasonable condition considering we played on temporary greens due to tinning. The weather was excellent for golf and teeing off at 10am and it was already 23 degrees and ended up with a temperature of 30 degrees with pure sun. We played Tony’s favourite team format which he developed with four players in a team changing partners every 6 holes scoring with the better ball Stableford points.
Seven teams took part in a very tight scoring competition with only 3 points between second and first places, the eventual winners of the Los Amigos Cup were Norman Cahill, Colin Smyth, Brian Gordon and Steve Day with 99 points, runners up were Steve Burns, Andy Godfrey, Jim Doyle and Paul Jones with 96 points. Nearest the pins were, group A holes 5 and 15 no winners and hole 8 Ray Muttock, group B hole 2 Brian Court hole 12 Tricia Lambie and hole 17 Tom Goulden, best front 9 went to Paul Jones with 23 points and best back 9 also went to Paul Jones with 25 points, the two’s pot was not won so €30 will be carry over to the next game making the pot €45.
The football card was won by Brian Court with Sheffield Wednesday winning €40 and raising €40 for this year’s charities 2026.
