The Orihuela City Council has launched a public tender for renovation works on a municipally owned property in the Desamparados district, population 2015, with a total investment of €100,000 (VAT included).
The project aims to transform the site into a fully functional civic centre, designed to meet modern standards of usability, accessibility, and public service. The deadline for bid submissions is May 18.
The initiative, led by the Department of Citizen Participation under Councillor Anabel García, addresses the need to adapt the building for community use. The project is intended to strengthen social infrastructure in Orihuela’s outlying districts by creating a dedicated space for local engagement, events, and neighbourhood interaction.
Planned works include a comprehensive refurbishment of the premises to accommodate its new purpose. Key interventions will focus on improving access points, reconfiguring the internal layout, upgrading technical installations, and enhancing overall finishes. The goal is to deliver a modern, accessible facility tailored to the needs of Desamparados residents.
Specific measures include adjustments to entrances, targeted modifications to exterior joinery and finishes, and installation of official signage for the centre. Internally, the project will involve updates to plumbing, drainage, electrical systems, lighting, data and telecommunications infrastructure, as well as climate control systems, including air renewal.
The contract also covers improvements to flooring, wall coverings, ceilings, interior carpentry, and metalwork elements. The maximum execution period is set at three months, starting from the day following the formal commencement of works.
Councillor García emphasized that the project “will provide residents of Desamparados with a suitable municipal space for activities, meetings, and community gatherings, fostering citizen participation and enhancing social life in the district.”
