Two off-duty Civil Guard officers became real-life heroes after bringing a 16-month-old baby back from the brink of death following a cardiac arrest in Alhama de Murcia.

The drama unfolded just after 1pm on April 14 as the pair were driving to begin their shift at the Totana barracks. But their routine journey turned into a life-or-death emergency when they spotted a frantic family by the roadside.

A terrified woman was clutching a baby upside down — the little girl was not breathing and had turned blue, while her grandmother desperately tried to revive her.

Without hesitation, the officers jumped into action.

They took the infant and immediately began life-saving procedures, performing a Heimlich manoeuvre adapted for babies along with chest compressions to restart her heart.

One officer delivered back blows while holding the child face down, as the other administered chest compressions to prevent irreversible cardiac arrest. At the same time, they coordinated with emergency services over the phone, giving updates as the baby slowly began to breathe again.

By the time paramedics arrived, the child had miraculously started breathing.

She was rushed to a local health centre for checks — and in a heartwarming twist, just hours later the same officers visited the family home to find the baby safely back with her parents.

Thanks to their quick thinking and fearless action, a tragedy was turned into a miracle.
