Three members of the same family arrested over a string of night-time break-ins at a lighting company in Spain’s Vega Baja
A family crime clan has been smashed after police caught three relatives behind a wave of daring factory robberies in the Vega Baja region.
The suspects — three men aged between 23 and 46 from Orihuela — are accused of repeatedly targeting a well-known lighting company, breaking in through the back fence and making off with valuable equipment and copper wiring.
CUTTING THEIR WAY IN
According to investigators, the gang gained access by cutting a hole (butrón) in the rear perimeter fencing of the industrial site. Once inside, they stole lighting material and six heavy rolls of copper electrical cable, fleeing the scene by car.
The crimes were reported on 6 October 2025, after two similar break-ins hit the same business within days. The Guardia Civil quickly launched an investigation, handing the case to its specialist ROCA Unit, which focuses on organized theft.
ORGANIZED AND EXPERIENCED
Police say the trio acted with military-style coordination, each playing a specific role. They struck from the rear of the warehouse, cut through the metal mesh, grabbed their haul, and escaped in a vehicle later identified by officers.
The car led police straight to the suspects — all known to authorities and with long criminal records for similar offences.
STING OPERATION CLOSES THE NET
Given the complexity of the case, a joint surveillance operation was launched involving the Guardia Civil and Local Police units from Orihuela, Almoradí, and Albatera. The decisive move came thanks to Orihuela’s police, whose monitoring helped corner the suspects.
In November, officers finally moved in, arresting all three men while they were driving through Orihuela. One of them was carrying a realistic-looking fake handgun, raising fears of potential violence.
WEAPONS, TOOLS AND STOLEN GOODS SEIZED
During the arrests, police seized:
- Burglary tools
- A simulated handgun
- A holster for a long firearm
- A vehicle audio system
- Other stolen items
Officers also recovered three rolls of copper cable, which had already been sold to a scrapyard.
COURT AND ONGOING INVESTIGATION
The suspects were brought before a judge in Orihuela and released pending trial under precautionary measures. Authorities say the investigation remains open.
Police praised the “excellent coordination” between national and local forces, stressing that teamwork was key to bringing down the family gang and stopping further raids.
