The City Council of Torrevieja has awarded a four-year contract for the cleaning and maintenance of beach toilets, valued at €947,286 (VAT included), to the company Recreativos Acuáticos Horadada. This contract, with an annual cost of €236,821, may be extended for an additional year in the future.
The new service significantly improves upon the previous one. It expands the number of toilet units maintained from 9 to 22 and ensures their operation every day of the year (365 days), from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Previously, these services were only available during Easter and the summer season.
The contract covers the upkeep of both wooden fixed toilets and modern self-cleaning units located along the city’s most frequented coastal areas, such as Playa del Cura and La Mata. It also includes general maintenance work (masonry, plumbing, carpentry, electricity, painting) and an on-call emergency service to address health or safety risks promptly.
Councillor for Beaches, Antonio Vidal, emphasized that this is a more modern and complete contract, designed to meet the real needs of Torrevieja’s growing number of beach users. The tender prioritized value for money and technical improvements, including:
- Increased cleaning frequency (three times daily, year-round)
- Specialized training for maintenance staff
Vidal highlighted that the aim is to maintain high standards for residents and tourists alike and to reinforce Torrevieja’s reputation as a top-tier beach destination. The contract reflects a shift toward a more centralized and efficient management model for public coastal services.
