Benejúzar, 3 June 2025 – It was hard hats and high hopes today as Alicante’s provincial president Toni Pérez joined local mayor Vicente Cases for a tour of Benejúzar’s soon-to-be-transformed nursery school – and the numbers are big. Thanks to a €680,000 cash injection from the Diputación, topped up with €227,000 from the town hall, the Escuela Infantil municipal is set for a full-scale makeover starting in 2026.

The ambitious project promises to turn the current setup – which occupies two blocks of the Antonio Sequeros school – into a modern educational haven. We’re talking five fully equipped classrooms (up from four), new nap zones, child-friendly bathrooms with visual access, and specialised psychomotor rooms. Add in a new kitchen, dining area, staff rooms, and a director’s office, and you’ve got a serious upgrade for Benejúzar’s youngest residents.

And it doesn’t stop inside. The playgrounds will be redesigned as inclusive spaces, while the building itself is going green – solar panels, underfloor heating, and an energy-efficient aerothermal system are all part of the plan.

“This investment means better care for our little ones and better support for their families,” Pérez said, praising the town for prioritising early childhood education and family wellbeing.

During his visit, Pérez also dropped by two more Diputación-backed projects in Benejúzar. First up: the nearly completed upgrade of the Virgen del Pilar playground, featuring LED lighting, improved accessibility, and themed play areas including a medieval-style climbing wall. Price tag? €121,700 – fully covered by the province.

Then it was off to the local sports complex, where work is underway to restore the cantina. That project, also under the Plan +Cerca scheme, is getting a €95,000 boost from the Diputación – covering 93% of the total cost.

“With these investments, we’re not just building infrastructure – we’re building community,” said Pérez. And for Benejúzar, the future is looking bright, safe, and very kid-friendly.
