On May 14, 2025, Marián Cano, the Consellera for Innovation, Industry, Commerce, and Tourism of the Generalitat Valenciana, visited the Orihuela Chamber of Commerce’s Business Incubator.
During her visit, she met with the Chamber’s president, Mario Martínez, and discussed key issues, including the declining state of retail commerce in Orihuela’s historic centre. Martínez highlighted the urgent need for institutional measures to encourage private businesses to return and revitalize the local commercial fabric.
Cano emphasized that commerce is a vital part of the economy and acknowledged the historical dynamism of Orihuela’s retail sector, which needs to be revived. She urged the use of available resources from her department to boost and strengthen the sector.
This visit follows a previous meeting held at the Orihuela Costa Digital Coworking Centre, where Cano discussed regional economic development projects, such as the future Business Park, which is part of the Generalitat’s Reindustrialization Plan.
Cano also highlighted the recent launch of the EMPYME 2025 aid program for entrepreneurs and small businesses in the Valencian Community, designed to support the creation and consolidation of businesses. The application deadline is June 12, 2025.
The Orihuela Chamber of Commerce expressed appreciation for Cano’s visit and her interest in understanding the local business environment, reaffirming its willingness to collaborate with the Generalitat on initiatives to promote economic development, innovation, and job creation.
