A quiet morning in Archena turned into a scene of horror on April 24th when a 74-year-old man was ruthlessly gunned down on a local street in what witnesses described as a “cold and calculated” execution.
Now, less than two weeks later, the Civil Guard has arrested the suspected killer—a 70-year-old man and fellow resident of Archena—in a chilling case that has stunned the community.
According to authorities, the suspect drove directly to the victim, stopped his vehicle beside him, stepped out, and without hesitation, opened fire at point-blank range, hitting the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Emergency responders rushed the critically wounded man to Murcia’s Virgen de La Arrixaca Hospital, where doctors fought to save his life. But despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries three days later, on April 27th.
In the aftermath, investigators from the Civil Guard’s Judicial Police combed the crime scene for clues. Their work paid off. Forensic teams collected multiple shell casings, ballistic evidence, and crucial biological samples that would lead them to the suspect. The man was tracked down and arrested within days.
Adding another layer to the case, officers recovered the murder weapon—a 9mm semi-automatic pistol—hidden in an agricultural area near Villanueva del Río Segura. Police believe it was deliberately stashed there as part of an attempted cover-up.
