Two men were arrested in the waters of San Pedro del Pinatar while they were driving a high-speed semi-rigid boat, valued at nearly 400,000 euros, that was stolen last December in the municipality of Rosas.
The owner reported the theft to the Mossos d’Esquadra police, a semi-rigid boat powered by three 350 hp outboard motors, valued at 390,000 euros.
They found that it could be in Murcia waters, so an operation was established between the Provincial Maritime Services of Girona and Murcia with the aim of locating it.
The search was eventually positive when it was detected sailing across Punta de Algas in the municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar, at which point it was intercepted by a Benemérita patrol boat. The civil guards approached her without giving her time to flee, arresting her two crew members on the spot as alleged perpetrators of the crime of boat theft.
Once moved to the Port of Santa Lucía in Cartagena, the Judicial Police carried out their visual inspection, suspecting that, in addition, the vessel could have been stolen for the transport of narcotic substances by sea. The Cynological Service of the Civil Guard then carried out an exhaustive reconnaissance, with dogs specialised in drug detection, which saw the discovery of several signs of interest for the investigation.
This is exactly the type of vessel that, due to its power and speed, is highly coveted by gangs dedicated to drug and human trafficking between the African continent and the peninsula.
The two detainees, aged 25 and 44, respectively, have been made available to the Investigative Court of Cartagena (Murcia). The recovered vessel has been returned to its owner.
