The educational community of the Rodolfo Tomás Samper public school in El Altet has turned their attention to the fight against climate change.

This week, parents, students and teachers have planted more than 150 stone pine, date palm, Kermes oak and ephedra trees in the vicinity of the school to offset their carbon footprint.

The Mayor, Carlos González, the Councillor for Education, María José Martínez, and the village mayor of El Altet, José Manuel Meseguer, have visited the school and have participated in this initiative, a project framed in the Network of Centres 2030 that connects with compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals.

To carry out this action, the carbon footprint has been calculated through surveys and fieldwork, the results of which are displayed on a panel in the hall of the educational centre.

The CEIP Rodolfo Tomás Samper are aware of the importance of mitigating the impact of CO2 in the atmosphere to curb global warming and for this reason they have launched this initiative that has had the help of the Department of Parks and Gardens of the City Council of Elche with water supply and tools.

The activity has been coordinated by the English teacher Vicenta Osa and joins the environmental program organised by the school. The next workshop will revolve around the production and use of the impact of mobile phones, another major problem that directly affects the environment.
