Along with the councillor for International Residents, Gitte Lund, the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, met on Friday morning with the presidents of the city’s Russian and Ukrainian associations.

He first met with the president of the Association of Ukrainians in Torrevieja, Natalia Zhezhnyauska, who spoke of her concern about the serious and sad situation that her country is going during the current Russian invasion.

The mayor offered his solidarity and full support, as well as that of the entire municipal council and the town of Torrevieja, making himself available to the association for any needs they may have.

It is expected that over the coming days thousands of exiled Ukrainians will arrive in Spain and permits will have to be processed. The mayor said that the Torrevieja Council has already contacted the National Police Corps to expedite the procedures that will be required for the arrivals.

In addition, the Council will be providing food and medicine to the Ukrainian association for its transfer to the country, at the request of Ms Zhezhnyauska.

This coming Sunday, February 27, at 12:00 p.m., the Association of Ukrainians of Torrevieja has called a rally in the Plaza de la Constitución to condemn the invasion of Russia, which will be joined by many Russian residents.

The mayor announced that both he and the council will attend this rally in the Plaza de la Constitución in support of the Ukrainian people and against the war.
