Elche town hall will receive four million euro in European funding to put towards the urban bus service.

The Ministry of Transport has approved this subsidy within the framework of the Next Generation EU funds in this area, with which eight 100% electric buses will be purchased and the service will be digitised, which means that you can pay with your mobile, in addition to modernising the entire transport management system.

The councillor for Sustainable Mobility, Esther Díez, commented that the bus station itself will also be electrified, which means an electric station to recharge the buses. The City Council had presented a pack of projects worth ten million euro.

“With this grant we are also going to improve the urban transport service by remodelling lines I and G for a diagonal route in both directions that connects the city from East to West.” Added to this is making line H more “agile”, restructuring lines E and F to provide a better service to the football field neighbourhood and the creation of a “demand service” for the Polígono de Carrús. “Very good news with which we take a big step in sustainable mobility and improvement of air quality and that brings us much closer to the goal of Elx 2030”.

For his part, councilor Carlos González agrees that it is “great news” for the promotion of this sustainable mobility. “It allows us to advance in the decarbonisation of transport and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that bring us closer to being a European Green Capital”.

Finally, the councillors indicated that the second line of projects presented by the City Council to these European funds, referring to the expansion of the Bicielx bicycle public transport system and the improvement of accessibility at urban bus stops, is in the position eight on the waiting list, so they believe that this grant could come soon.
