On Thursday, the campaign to administer the second dose of Covid vaccine to children began.

A total of 108,181 boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 11 will receive the paediatric vaccine, thus completing the vaccination process.

In this process, all those children who, for whatever reason, have not yet received the dose of the vaccine and have the corresponding authorisation from their parents or guardians will also be vaccinated, the Ministry of Health reported in a statement.

In the first phase of childhood vaccination, coordinated by the Ministries of Health and Education, students from 9 to 11 years old (4th, 5th and 6th grade) were immunised with the first dose, as well as students from special education centres, schools of aggregated rural centres and boys and girls with special health problems (immunocompromised, oncological) whose parents or guardians authorised the inoculation.

By provinces, before Christmas 37,356 schoolchildren were vaccinated in the province of Alicante, 12,628 in Castellón and 58,197 in the province of Valencia.

Of the total number of boys and girls who will receive the second dose, those who have been positive of coronavirus (with or without symptoms) must be excepted, they will have to wait 8 weeks after diagnosis of the infection to be able to be immunised.

On the day of vaccination, students must be accompanied by a family member or adult authorised by the family, who must present the signed authorisation to proceed with the immunisation.

Currently, 65.10% of schoolchildren in the Valencian Community (10 points above the state average), aged between 5 and 11 years, have already received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. In addition, 76% coverage has been exceeded in the age groups of 9, 10 and 11 years.

Since the childhood vaccination campaign began on December 15 in the Valencian Community, the Ministry of Health has administered 226,998 doses of the paediatric vaccine. By province, 79,692 doses have been administered in Alicante, 26,442 in Castellón and 120,884 in Valencia.
