Members of the local political group, CONTIGO Elche, have visited La Marina to learn first-hand about the felling that is taking place in the pine forest.

The spokesman for the College of Agricultural Technical Engineers, Miguel Agulló, recently spoke about his group’s disagreement with the actions being carried out in the La Marina pine forest.

Agulló is disappointed that “they are cutting down green, live pines, due to their state of health, to plant new seedlings of the same species, it is a claim that is difficult to argue with, even more so when there is only a small budget allocation to repopulate the lost pines”

CONTIGO Elche has questioned how the environmental restoration project of the coastal pine forest between the south of Santa Pola and the north of Guardamar is being carried out.

They say there is no need for any intervention in a dune and centennial forest that has survived numerous episodes of droughts and climatic adversities.

The president of CONTIGO Elche, Carlos San José, is concerned about the action being carried out in La Marina and asked those responsible for the Conselleria to “stop experimenting with the La Marina pine forest and follow the advice of the College of agricultural engineers who argue against this method of regenerating this enclave that is so emblematic for the Marinenese”
