Mayor Eduardo Dolón praises the professionalism and hard work of all CECOPAL members in managing the climate emergency
After the passage of DANA Alice through Torrevieja and the subsequent improvement in weather conditions, the city officially moved to a Yellow Alert (low risk) at 8:00 a.m. this morning, which will remain in place until 8:00 p.m. Although some isolated storms could still occur, they are expected to be much less intense than those of the previous day.
The Torrevieja City Council reports that urban transport has been fully restored and traffic is flowing normally across the city since early morning.
Urban Cleaning Services
The waste collection service has also been operating at full capacity since last night. Containers displaced by the heavy rain have been repositioned, and multiple cleaning crews are working today in the most affected areas—both in the city center and in residential developments.
Beach cleaning teams are also at work to restore the coastline to perfect condition over the coming days.
Parks and Gardens
The Department of Parks and Gardens has inspected all potentially affected areas. All public parks and gardens in the city are now open, with only waterlogged sections cordoned off.
- Parque de las Naciones has reopened, though its children’s play area, part of the stage, and a side walkway remain closed due to water accumulation.
- Parque de La Siesta is also open, except for the pump track area, where crews are still draining excess water.
Animal Shelter
The municipal animal shelter is now operating at 100% capacity. The large amounts of accumulated water have been drained, and the facilities thoroughly cleaned.
All animals are safe and in good health, having been cared for by teams from Civil Protection, Local Police, and AGAMED personnel throughout the storm.
Public Lighting
Regarding last night’s power outages caused by torrential rain, most were resolved by resetting the protective systems, restoring lighting in most areas. Some fixtures that suffered damage are being repaired today, and further inspections will be carried out this evening when the lighting systems are reactivated.
In total, 32 incidents were reported yesterday, including the removal of a fallen streetlight on Lope de Vega Street due to the storm.
Temporary Shelter for the Homeless
Civil Protection, Red Cross, and the local NGO Alimentos Solidarios have concluded their joint operation, organized by the City Council, to shelter homeless individuals at the “Tavi y Carmona” Sports Complex.
A total of 47 people were accommodated — 13 women (including one 37 weeks pregnant, who was briefly hospitalized for routine checks) and 34 men.
Each person received a hygiene kit, bed, blankets, and meals prepared by Alimentos Solidarios volunteers. The operation was continuously supported by Civil Protection, Local Police, and the Guardia Civil.
The City Council is now working with these individuals through municipal social services to help them leave the streets and reintegrate into society.
